The initial inspiration came from the shadows that were cast onto grass. A few months later she came up with a technique that didn't render the chosen object on canvas as an unflat image. The subject instead transforms into a re-creation of itself in which the painting becomes the carrier of it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly when the subject is living or perishable items like people or fruits. Alexa's style of painting exhibits a hazy quality the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so tightly coordinated that the end result is nothing but a two-dimensional flat space, which achieves trompe-l'oeil. In this, the third dimension is discernible only in specific areas that are close to the eyes or hair. Meade sometimes incorporates painted models into the environment around them. This allows them to be part of the world the artist has constructed. The line that separates painting and photography is removed.
