Dua Lipa Dua Lipa, an English performer and songwriter, was born in London on the 22nd of August 1995. She signed her first contract with Warner Bros Records in 2014 following her work as a model. She launched her self-titled debut album in 2017. The album peaked at the top of the charts, number third on the U.K. Albums Chart and released eight singles, including Be the One I.D.G.A.F as well as her U.K. number-one single New Rules which reached number six in the United States. Lipa was awarded the Brit Awards for British female solo artist as well as British breakout act in the year 2018. The album was certified platinum across the world. She was born to Kosovo Albanian parents Anesa Rexha and Dukagjin Lipa. The maternal grandparents of her are Bosnian. Her ancestors are also tracked back to the Kosovo cities of Peja. Two of Lipa's grandfathers are historians. Her siblings include Rina and Gjin. Lipa was influenced musically by her father who was the principal guitarist and singer in the Kosovan the rock band Oda. In her home, Lipa's father continued playing music. He played his compositions and songs from David Bowie Bob Dylan Radiohead Stereophonics The Police. Lipa began singing when she aged five. At the age of nine, Lipa began singing in the Sylvia Young Theater School. Lipa has covered Beautiful Christina Aguilera's Beautiful and If I Ain't Have You By Alicia Keys on YouTube. Lipa was approached for the recording contract from Warner Bros. Records in 2014. Her first single was released New Love in August of 2015.
